Dr. Dominguez
Dr. Maritza Dominguez is a licensed physical therapist, educator, and leader with nearly 20 years of experience advancing interprofessional healthcare. Dominguez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, a Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer from the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists, and credentialed clinical instructor through the American Physical Therapy Association.
Dr. Dominguez completed a PhD in Physical Therapy from the University of Central Arkansas in August 2020, a Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Texas at El Paso in May 2009, and a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2001.
Dominguez serves on the Interprofessional Education Committee for the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences and is a professional member of the National Academies of Practice (PNAP). She primarily teaches first and second year DPT students in research, therapeutic exercise, physical rehabilitation, and professional development. Dominguez was recognized for Teaching Excellence in Generative Artificial Intelligence through the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Academic Leadership (CETAL) in 2026.
Her scholarship focuses on teaching and learning through interprofessional education and community-based wellness initiatives, including adaptive fitness programs for individuals living with brain and spinal cord injuries. Driven by a passion for equitable, patient-centered practice, Dr. Dominguez is committed to preparing the next generation of collaborative healthcare and fitness leaders while advancing interprofessional care, globally.
Outside of academia, Maritza enjoys CrossFit, triathlons, travel, pickleball, and biking with her family.
