Dr. Maritza Dominguez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and a licensed physical therapist. She is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer from the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists and credentialed clinical instructor through the APTA. Dr. Dominguez completed a PhD in Physical Therapy from the University of Central Arkansas in August 2020, a Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Texas at El Paso in May 2009, and a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2001. Her primary clinical focus is post-acute care and community re-integration with adults who have survived brain injuries and other neurological disorders. She also has experience in outpatient, working with the geriatric population and young athletes. Dr. Dominguez serves on the Interprofessional Education Committee for the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences and teaches physical rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, kinesiology, and complex patient management.

Her clinical research interests include interprofessional education and improving cognitive performance and neuroprotection through exercise and physical activity. Outside of academia, Maritza is an avid CrossFit enthusiast and has completed two Ironman triathlons. These activities not only reflect her dedication to personal health but also inform her approach to teaching and research, emphasizing the importance of holistic well-being in patient care.
