Amy Hufstedler Named Outstanding Psychology Student

Congratulations to Amy Hufstedler for being awarded this year’s Richard A. Scott Outstanding Psychology Student Award and receiving $750.

Congratulations to Zach Stillman for being the 1st Runner Up and receiving $250.

Congratulations to Hailey Arens for being the 2nd Runner Up and receiving $100.

UCA Psychology Rocks SWPA

Thirty-five (35) UCA graduate and undergraduate students and 11 faculty presented research at the Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) annual convention in Wichita, KS on April 10-12.. Some students presented more than one paper. In the SWPA graduate research competition, Tiffany Wierzbicki and Danielle Umland were named finalists, placing in the top four out of all the submissions. In the SWPA undergraduate research competition, Jonathon Halligan placed 2nd and Zach Stillman was named a finalist. In addition to these accomplishments, Tiffany Wierzbicki, Brooklin Jackson, Brentnie Connor, and Shannon Perry all received Psi Chi student research awards.

UCA Chapter of Psi Chi Wins Prestigious Award

The UCA Chapter of the Psi Chi International Honor Society recently received the 2014-15 Kay Wilson Officer Team Leadership Award.

From the announcement: “This award honors Kay Wilson, Executive Officer of Psi Chi from 1991–2003, and her commitment to leadership and collaboration. Under Kay’s leadership, Psi Chi doubled its membership and increased its grants, awards, and national visibility. Like Kay, your team has not only demonstrated excellence in leadership but also realized the role Psi Chi plays in developing future leaders in psychology.”

College of Health and Behavioral Sciences Student Research Poster Symposium

This event will be held on Tuesday, Apr 21 from 1:30-3:00 pm in the UCA Student Center Ballroom. Students from various departments in the college will present their research as poster presentations.

Arkansas Symposium for Psychology Students

ASPS will be held on Saturday, Apr 18 in the UCA Student Center. Psychology students from universities around the region will present their research.

Undergraduate Student Receives Psi Chi Grant

Congrats to Zach Stillman for receiving the 2015 Psi Chi Spring Undergraduate Research Grant. His proposal was titled “Brain Drain: The Effects of Ego Depletion on Temporal Discounting.”

Devon Patterson awarded APA internship

Congrats to Devon for being awarded an APA internship with the Avondale School District on the outskirts of Phoenix AZ. Devon is a doctoral student in the School Psychology program.

Psi Chi Meeting, Thu, Mar 19

Dr. Darshon Andrson will present an overview of her research on goal pursuit this Thursday, March 19, during X-period (1:40pm-2:30pm) in Mashburn 200.  All students interested in learning more about Dr. Anderson’s work are welcome to attend the event.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about some of the research that is being conducted in the department.
