This class will provide you with the information that you’ll need to get your business off the ground. From Pen to Publishing

You’ve spent long hours writing and writing and your thoughts are finally captured in book form. Now what? Author Kassandra Klay will guide you through the process of getting it out to the world. This class will provide information to help you determine your best path toward publication, whether it be the traditional route or the self-publishing process. She will share tips to enhance your writing process and will walk you through the journey of launching your book. Since publishing a book doesn’t equal sales, Kassandra will also reveal marketing, promotion and advertising strategies to help your book jump off the shelf. Women’s Self-Defense Workshop

During the Women’s Self Defense Workshop you will learn basic and effective “real life” self-defense tactics. Topics such as awareness of surroundings, most effective techniques and avoidance will be discussed. This workshop is based on the Street Smart Self Defense System developed by Master Brice Bishop, an 8th degree black belt and owner of National Black Belt Academy in Conway.

Beginning Breadmaking

Back by popular demand! If you’ve always wanted to learn how to make homemade bread, or you’ve made bread before but want to increase your skills, then this class is for you. Kristen Spickard returns to show you techniques for making bread using sourdough starter as well as commercial yeast. In class, you’ll make dough to take home to proof overnight then bake into a finished loaf the following morning. Additionally, you’ll get the chance to make your own sourdough starter that will be ready to use in about one week’s time. And, if that’s not enough, you’ll also learn many ways to use your extra dough to make crackers, focaccia, pizza crust or easy treats that can be whipped up effortlessly!

Cake Decorating: Phase Two

It’s time to up your game! Students will build on techniques covered in Phase 1. Marieda will show you how to make newborns and simple, pretty flowers and how to enhance your piping skills through working with royal icing. Other skills to be featured include the Basic Principles of Cake Design, Reverse Shell, and the Rose. Students will need basic decorating tools, which can be purchased at local hobby of craft stores. Stewards of Children – Child Abuse Prevention Training

The Stewards of Children® training is engaging and thought provoking. This session includes a two-part DVD presentation with commentary from sexual abuse survivors, experts in the field and concerned adults. UnYielding: Solution Based Training Addressing the Child Sex Trafficking Crisis in Central Arkansas

Faulkner Co. is one of the highest risk areas for juvenile sex trafficking in Arkansas, a state that was recently ranked amongst the highest in the nation for rates of childhood trauma victims. In this two-hour training, we will discuss appropriate prevention, recognition, and response to juvenile sex trafficking. Courtney McPherson, LMSW will lead us in grasping a better understanding of what domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) and commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) are, how they affect our community, what to do if we suspect someone is a victim, the status of legislation affecting DMST and CSEC, what our nation is doing, and what our local community can do to create change. Join us for a two-hour awareness and solution based dialogue on one of the most pervasive risks to our youth. Trigger warning: This content will be directly addressing the stories, impacts, and degree sex trafficking and sexual exploitation happen. For some citizens, this content may evoke difficult emotions to process, past experiences, and/or be difficult to hear.

Friendly Driver Certification Program

This fun interactive course educates drivers on the best and safest way to share the road with people and bicycles. The class addresses: common crashes and how to avoid them, what’s legal and what’s not legal for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians, why sharing the road is the safest option for all transportation users, and how to navigate bicycle and pedestrian-related infrastructure, including sharrows, bike boxes, green lanes, roundabouts and rapid flashing beacons. Cubs in the Kitchen: Culinary Camp Level 1

This three-day culinary camp for kids ages 8- 12 is back by popular demand! Under the instruction of Mrs. Tiffany Block, young chefs will learn cooking skills that are sure to tap into their creative talents. Each day your junior chef will work in a small group to prepare a dish incorporating a surprise ingredient. In addition to being exposed to new ingredients each day, chefs will also take a closer look at the food items used to see how to incorporate them into meals at home. With the exploration of a different cooking focus during each session, your kid will surely enjoy this fun-filled, exciting culinary experience.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Is your child comfortable using a knife? Can your child follow a simple recipe? Has your child taken culinary classes with Mrs. Tiffany before? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then your aspiring chef is ready to level up in this new summer camp opportunity. The Level 2 camp will take place over the course of four days in a more intimate class setting, and students will be held to higher expectations. Each day, students will prepare a hearty breakfast and lunch utilizing more advanced culinary techniques and unique, quality ingredients. To attend Culinary Camp Level 2, parents and students must attend a brief, highly informative meeting at UCA Downtown on Monday, June 15 from 6 - 7:15 pm. Jessica Lane will teach your cub about elements of line, shape, value, form, texture and space through different mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpture, print- making and collage. Summer Reading Institute

In the summer reading programs for children (4-year-olds through 5th grade), students have fun while learning phonics and wordattack skills, building fluency and comprehension and becoming confident readers. Your child will be excited about books and reading and will get off to a great start in the upcoming school year. In the programs for adolescents (6th grade and up), students improve comprehension in both fiction and non-fiction while doubling their reading speed. Students get better grades in school by learning the best way to read and study textbooks, take notes and study for tests. The Summer Reading Institute meets July 9 - August 8 at UCA. Cub Fit Camp

Cub Fit Camp invites rising 4th and 5th graders to campus for a dynamic daily schedule of activities related to fitness, nutrition and wellness. This is a great opportunity for your child to show off his/ her dance moves with Zumba and practice Yoga techniques.
