ACT Prep Course I – FULL

This course is designed for high school students (10th grade and above) who have previously scored between 17-25 on the ACT or for high schoolers who have yet to take the test. Four UCA faculty/staff members will review subject material and offer test-taking tips to help students progress through the exam in a more reasonable and timely manner. Class sizes are kept fairly small to maximize learning. Registration for this course does not automatically register you to take the ACT exam.

Culinary Team Building Challenge

Cake Decorating Phase 1

Skills will cover topics such as fundamentals in baking a cake, making icing and using a decorating bag. Beginner Sewing for Kids

Does your child love fashion and style? Is he/she creative? If so, then this is the place to be. Birder Harris will show your kids how to get started sewing. Video Animation for Kids

The kids loved this class last semester, so we are bringing it back! Bring your child to this fun class to learn the history of stop-motion animation, to create storyboards and to create their very own movies. For this class, each student must bring 3-5 poseable action figures that stand or a medium-sized toy vehicle. Both are welcome. Completed Lego kits and minifigures can also be brought to class and used in the movie. Please bring an iPad or cell phone that can run the Stop Motion Studio app. Whether your child has attended before or if it will be his/her first time, your child will definitely have a blast!

Stewards of Children – Child Abuse Prevention Training

The Stewards of Children® training is engaging and thought provoking. This session includes a two-part DVD presentation with commentary from sexual abuse survivors, experts in the field and concerned adults. The discussion will emphasize important issues in prevention within the community and organizations that serve children and youth. An interactive workbook will guide discussion, reinforce key concepts, and serve as a resource and personal action plan for resolving child sexual abuse. Summer Reading Institute

Since 2015, UCA Outreach and Community Engagement has offered reading programs designed and taught by instructors from the Institute of Reading Development. The Institute of Reading Development has taught valuable reading skills to more than two million students across the United States since 1970. Like many other colleges and universities nationwide, UCA Outreach is proud to bring the Institute’s programs and instructors to families in our community. These customized programs help students become better readers at every age and inspire a love of books and reading. In the programs for children (4-year-olds through 5th grade), students have fun while learning phonics and word-attack skills, building fluency and comprehension, and becoming confident readers. Your child will be excited about books and reading and get off to a great start in the upcoming school year. In the programs for adolescents (6th grade and up), students improve comprehension in both fiction and non-fiction while doubling their reading speed. Students get better grades in school by learning the best way to read and study textbooks, take notes, and study for tests. The Summer Reading Institute meets May - June 29 at UCA.

Citizens Academy

The UCA Citizens Academy is a 13-week program emphasizing civic engagement at the local and regional level. Meeting one evening per week during the 2019 fall semester, sessions include presentations on many of the units and services of local and regional government with special attention on how citizens can become more involved. Unlike many other citizen academies, the UCA Citizens Academy addresses a wide array of issues. Space is limited and applications will be accepted on a competitive basis. Learn the basic structure of relational databases and how to read and write simple and complex SQL statements and advanced data manipulation techniques. By the end of this course, you’ll have a solid working knowledge of SQL. You will feel confident in your ability to write SQL queries to create tables; retrieve data from single or multiple tables; delete, insert and update data in a database and gather significant statistics from data stored in a database.
