The College of Education is not only proud to be Arkansas’s premier educator preparation college but also houses a unique set of departments and programs that focus on student success and professional leadership. The College is home to the departments of Student Transitions; Elementary, Literacy, and Special Education; Leadership Studies; Teaching and Learning; and the PhD in Leadership for Equity and Inclusion. Through our professional education programs, we equip teachers with the requisite content, pedagogical, and professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively support student success and leadership development. Furthermore, the College of Education extends its support beyond traditional educator preparation to assist students in successfully transitioning to college life. Our specialized fields address the needs of college students, particularly those facing challenges in their first year and beyond. By providing intentional support, we aim to cultivate academic and personal confidence among students, affirming higher education as a space where all learners can thrive. With a steadfast commitment to teaching, research, and service, the members of the College of Education are dedicated to empowering others to seek opportunities to lead and inspire, all while advocating for equitable opportunities for all.

The Department of Student Transitions, formerly University College, was created to assist students in making a successful transition into college life by providing them with intentional support that helps them develop academic and personal confidence.
The Department of Elementary, Literacy, and Special Education is comprised of faculty members who teach, supervise, and advise undergraduate and graduate candidates pursuing degrees in education. Degree tracks include: Elementary Education, Special Education, and Literacy/Dyslexia.
The Department of Leadership Studies offers a variety of graduate degree programs, graduate certificate programs, and post-masters certificate programs. Degree areas include: School Leadership, Management, and Administration; Library Media and Information Technologies; College Student Personnel Administration; Instructional Technology; and School Counseling.
The Department of Teaching and Learning includes undergraduate programs in Middle-Level Education with tracks in core content areas; secondary education in various content areas and a minor in Teaching and Learning. The department houses various graduate degrees that are 100% online: Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), Advanced Studies in Teacher Leadership; specialist (Ed.S.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Digital Age Teaching and Learning; and a 15-hour certificate program in Gifted and Talented Education.
The Change Leadership for Equity and Inclusion (CLEI) Ph.D. program prepares professionals from nonprofit, public health, government, business, K-12 education, and higher education to contribute to the body of knowledge in leadership studies and to enhance human and community development with a change-agent focus on equity and inclusion through their research, practice, and service.
