Alumnae of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority held a reunion for members who attended the University of Central Arkansas during the years 1964 – 1972. The planning committee, included Jane Gilleland Newman, Debbie Connelly Allison, Candy Mork Anderson, Julie Isom Hill, Nancy Crary Jones, Linda Olsen Rogers, and Sarah M. Spencer. Fifty-three sorority sisters came from ten states across the nation: California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, and Arkansas. They met mid-day at the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority House, a first visit to the sorority house for many of the group. For some attending, it was their first visit back to the campus in over 50 years.
The reunion included a lunch; a display of sorority photographs, yearbooks, and memorabilia; and a memorial tribute to honor the thirteen sorority sisters who have passed away.
“While, in some ways, the good response may have been unexpected, it is not totally surprising,” says Debbie Connelly Allison, a former sorority president: “This sorority has always been a leader at UCA, so the energy and commitment of its members has not changed over time. If any group has dedicated members who will make things happen, it is Alpha Sigma Tau.” And as Jane Gilleland Newman of Colorado added: “We are so excited by this response and can’t wait to reconnect with our fellow sorority sisters. And now, with email, FaceTime, and social media, we’ll be able to stay in touch, even though we may live across the country from each other. April 8 will reconnect us.”
