What is academic advising?

Professional Academic Advising is a collaborative and holistic process designed to facilitate students’ understanding of the meaning and purpose of higher education and to foster students’ intellectual and personal development toward academic success and lifelong learning.

Successful academic advising is a shared responsibility between an advisor and a student. It requires active participation from both parties. It is ultimately the student’s responsibility to make decisions about their life goals by creating a plan to reach those goals. The advisor serves as a facilitator of communication and a coordinator of learning experiences through course and career planning and academic progress reviews.

Academic advisors are committed to provided students with high-quality assistance in order to support them in the development and pursuit of academic objectives consistent with their life goals and available opportunities at UCA’s campus.  [Read more…]

Have a quick advising question that just can’t wait? Academic Advisors will be available to assist you in the evenings from 5:00-7:00 p.m. via phone or email on the following dates:

• Tuesday, November 7
• Wednesday, November 8
• Thursday, November 9
• Monday, November 13
• Tuesday, November 14

Advisors will be available to assist with schedule change questions, major or minor information, and can answer general advising questions. This will not replace a student’s required appointment with their assigned academic advisor, and after hours advisors cannot release registration holds.
