Director of Office of Accessibility Resources and Services

Doris Pierce is the Director for the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA).   Ms. Pierce obtained a BA in Psychology and a MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from Henderson State University.  Prior to her employment at UCA, Doris was the Disability Services Counselor and Coordinator for Disability Services at Pulaski Technical College (PTC) where she was chosen as a member of the Leadership Pulaski Tech Class II in 2009, awarded the Diversity Professional of the Year Award in 2012, and served on the AQIP Accreditation Student Services Team Member in Spring 2015.  Prior to PTC, Doris was an Education Specialist, Tutor Coordinator and Local Coordinator the Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) program for the Disability Resource Center at Henderson State University.  Doris has served on the Board of Directors for the Arkansas Association on Higher Education and Disability (Ark-AHEAD) for 12 years as Secretary, Vice-President, President, Immediate Past President while having served as the State Affiliate Representative to the national Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) organization for two of those years and is the 2022 Ark-AHEAD Distinguished Service Award recipient.  She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Learning Disabilities Association of Arkansas (LDAA) for  seven years as its Secretary, Vice-President, President, Past-President and Treasurer.  Doris has previously served as a partnering Chair and is currently a member of the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) Racial, Ethnic Diversity and Disability (REDD) Knowledge & Practice (K&P) Community and a past member of the Community Colleges SIG Group.  Doris has presented on the following topics:  Accommodations for Students with Learning Disabilities, Success Strategies for Students with Disabilities, Academic Advising Strategies for Students with Disabilities, Students with Psychiatric Disabilities in the Learning Environment and as a Co-Presenter on pursuing campus-wide accessibility and leadership in the Disability Services in Higher Education profession.
