Campus Climate Survey FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is UCA conducting this survey?

UCA has conducted this campus-wide study on campus climate in 2016, 2018, 2021, and 2023.  Then and now, the survey includes perceptions of safety, accessibility, and your sense of community.  The outcomes of this study will inform future programming and projects. Further, the results will help with accreditation reporting. Previous summary reports of the Campus Climate/Enrichment Survey Results are located on the Student Affairs Assessments and Reports website.

Who should complete the survey?

All degree-seeking students over the age of 18 enrolled during Spring 2025 are invited to take the survey.  Additionally, all faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to take the survey.

What kinds of questions are asked in the survey?

The survey asks about:

  • Perceptions of campus community, environment (including the classroom), culture, and safety
  • Accessibility of information and resources
  • Perceptions of the university’s policies and response to reports of sexual misconduct/assault
  • Knowledge of University policies and resources

You can skip any question and can exit the survey at any time.

Who created this survey?

With permission, the core content comes from a survey created by Skyfactor, a survey research company. We also used questions taken from the academic literature that focus on classroom experience. We have added modifications and campus-specific items based on feedback from UCA faculty, staff, and students.

What input did students have in the survey?

For the first Campus Climate survey, the UCA Student Government Association selected two students to be representatives of the undergraduate population, and provided assistance with the survey design. These students provided useful comments and feedback that informed the content of the questionnaire, how best to administer it, and the communication strategy employed to maximize student participation. For the 2023 Campus Climate Survey, graduate students from the College Student Personnel Administration (CSPA) program assisted with the research of commercially used tools for climate assessment.

How long does the survey take?

On average, the survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete. The survey will be open for two and a half weeks after you receive your unique survey key via email. If at any point while taking the survey you feel uncomfortable or do not want to continue, you may exit. Only your responses to answered questions will be recorded. Skyfactor will collect and analyze survey responses on behalf of the University. We will announce the release of the summary report to the University community and place it on the Student Affairs Assessments and Reports website as soon as results are available. The University report and subsequent college-level reports and the de-identified open responses will allow the University to address a wide variety of issues in the months ahead.

I have not been directly affected by these issues – why should I take this survey?

In order for the survey data to be meaningful, we need responses from a representative cross-section of UCA administrators, faculty, staff, and students. We need to hear from administrators, faculty, staff and students from all parts of the university and at all levels in order to accurately estimate how safety concerns, prevalent exclusion, and sexual misconduct are at UCA. Your response to the survey is important, even if you have not personally experienced any of these concerns. Each of these concerns on our campus affects everyone in our community, including people who are fortunate to have never experienced or witnessed various behaviors. Each of us plays an important role in ensuring that all members of the University community can live, learn, and work in an environment free of exclusive behavior, discrimination, sexual misconduct, and violence. Your participation in this survey is essential to the University’s overall strategy for addressing these important issues.

What about confidentiality? Will my name or ID number be associated with my responses?

All survey responses will be anonymous. You will receive a unique key via email that will provide individualized online access to the survey. UCA is working with the educational research company Skyfactor to facilitate the survey and hold response data confidential. At no time will anyone at UCA be granted access to the raw data that could identify your individual responses.

Instructors that offer extra credit for participation in the survey may request that students provide a copy of the completion/thank you page of the survey as a form of receipt that the survey was completed. However, at no time will instructors have access to the raw data that could identify their students’ individual responses.

Only summaries of aggregated data will be included in reports of survey results, so it will not be possible to identify an individual response from these reports. More Information about Skyfactor can be found at www.skyfactor.com.

If I indicate on the survey that I have experienced sexual misconduct, will UCA identify my response or follow up with me?

Your response is anonymous. The university cannot link your response to your identity. Thus, if you would like to report sexual misconduct that you have experienced, please contact the University’s Title IX Office at 501-450-3247 or https://uca.edu/titleix/title-ix-coordinator/.

Does this survey constitute a report of sexual misconduct to the university?

This is an anonymous survey and does NOT constitute notice to the University of Title IX- prohibited conduct that would trigger a response from the University. Should you wish to report Title IX prohibited conduct, please contact the University’s Title IX Office at 501-450-3247 or https://uca.edu/titleix/title-ix-coordinator/.

Is taking this survey required?

Taking the survey is completely optional. Whether you choose to take the survey or decline to participate will in no way affect your standing at UCA, and no one at UCA will know whether you responded. Administrators, faculty, staff, and students may receive reminders after the initial invitation goes out to ensure a high response rate. No person is under any obligation to participate. However, we strongly encourage participation, as the more administrators, faculty, staff, and students who participate, the more useful the survey results will be.\

Are there any incentives for participating?

Yes. By completing the survey, you will be eligible for a drawing to win one of several prizes listed below.

  • Stanley Quencher ProTour Flip Straw (12)
  • Amazon Echo Dot (6)
  • Portable Mini Fridge (6)
  • Air Fryer (6)

You will be asked at the conclusion of the survey if you would like to be entered into the drawing for one of the prizes. If you choose to be entered, you will select the appropriate response option. If selected, the winners will choose between prizes, while supplies of each last.

Will the survey be administered online? Will it be accessible to students with visual and other disabilities?

This is an online survey. The survey platform is compatible with screen reader software. The appropriate steps will be taken to ensure that the survey is accessible to all students. If you are concerned about your ability to take the survey, please contact studentaffairs@uca.edu.

Will the survey results be shared with students?

Yes. UCA will release summary survey findings to our community via a report that will be publicly available at https://uca.edu/student/student-affairs-assessments-and-reports/.

Can I still provide feedback to UCA if I do not want to participate in this survey?
