What is 2025 Summer STEAM Academy at UCA?

The 2025 Summer STEAM Academy at UCA is a one-week, non-residential enrichment experience for students entering grades 7-9. Participating students will explore the science of ecology and the visual arts, focusing on the natural world in Arkansas. Activities will include exploration of collecting data on local trees, the ecological basis of birdsong and associated spectrograms, and examining movement and characteristics of freshwater crustaceans. Each scientific exploration is paired with art projects, such as leaf pigment extraction and printmaking, and art utilizing acoustic spectrograms.

Who is eligible?

Any student that is entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grade for the 2025-26 school year may attend.

Fees, Schedule, and Location

The 2025 Summer STEAM Academy is free thanks to an AEGIS grant from the Arkansas Department of Education. Activities will take place in the Conway Corp Center for Sciences and Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

The daily schedule will last 8:45 – 3:00,  Monday July 14 – Friday, July 18. Lunch is included. On Friday, families and friends are welcome to join participants for a student installation 3:00-4:00pm in the Windgate Center.

Registration

The camp is limited to 32 students. The application deadline is May 1, 2025. Acceptances will be sent out shortly thereafter. To apply to the camp, fill out the Application Form.
