Alexis (Smith) Peláez completed her Master’s degree in English at the University of Central Arkansas.
Mrs. Peláez graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Linguistics from UCA in May of 2022. Her research centers on the intersection of linguistics and literature, focusing primarily on the presence of code-switching in texts. She has presented on the performative power of syntax in Shakespeare’s plays at the Arkansas Philological Association conference and has written papers on the use of French as well as dialects of English in Victorian novels. Her Masters thesis centered on the use of code-switching among the constructed languages in Julio Cortázar’s experimental novel, Rayuela, and its role in shaping the political subtext that runs throughout the novel.
