I was raised in Conway and am a two time alumnus of UCA. I earned a BSE in Biology and Health Education and an MS in Health Science from UCA and a Doctorate in Public Health from the University of South Carolina, School of Public Health. I taught at Ball State University in Indiana before returning to UCA in 1994. I am a professor in the Department of Health Sciences where I teach research methods, statistics, and health literacy. I am an active member of the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing and have served on the Board of Commissioners and as a division board coordinator. The commission’s role is to certify health education specialist and to advance the profession of health education. As a health educator, my expertise is in program evaluation and health literacy. Currently, I am working with a team of faculty from UCA evaluating the use of the tobacco settlement funds by the Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Commission.  Since 2002, I have served as the Associate Dean for the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. One of my tasks as associate dean is to serve as the UCA project director for the Arkansas Geriatric Education Collaborative. This project involves all of the departments within the college in preparing our students to work with older adults when they graduate. Finally, I serve as the Rector of HPaW@Baridon and encourage all of our students to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
