I have been a faculty member at UCA for over 20 years. After completing my graduate work, I spent 3 and half years at the University of Mississippi in a post-doctoral research position. Born, raised, and educated out west, I have learned to accept the humidity, I find myself “fixin” to do things, and have truly enjoyed the company of y’all for nearly 30 years. Conway is home and I am glad I’m here.

Since coming to UCA, I have served in numerous positions on campus. I have held the ranks of Assistant Professor (1995-2001), Associate Professor (2001-2018), and now Professor (2018-…) During the 2003/2004 school year I served as the President of the Faculty Senate. Starting in July of 2007 I began my administrative work as the Associate Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. In April of 2012 I moved up to the Chair’s office of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The STEM Residential College was born while I was Associate Dean. I am the person to blame for the pillars in the middle of the classroom. When we were designing the spaces, I did not realize there were structural supports there.

Being a part of the STEM Residential College team from its beginning has been one of my most rewarding accomplishments. I enjoy interacting with the students and faculty in the college. STEM@Hughes Hall is and always has been one of the best ways for an incoming freshman to transition from their high school to the university experience.
