Research Tools

UCA provides faculty, staff, and students with a set of tools that support the full arc of a research project: finding, evaluating, and synthesizing the literature, organizing and citing sources, and checking a manuscript for originality before submission. Select a tool below to learn what it does, what it costs (nothing), and how to get access.

Consensus

Find and evaluate research

An AI-powered academic search engine built on more than 220 million peer-reviewed papers, with every answer grounded in real, citable research. All UCA faculty and students have Pro access at no cost.

Scopus AI

Map the field and trace its foundations

An AI research assistant built on Scopus, the curated, peer-reviewed database available through UCA’s university-wide subscription. Synthesize the literature on a topic, trace how research has evolved, identify seminal works, and spot emerging trends across STEM, health, the social sciences, and the humanities. Included with UCA’s Scopus access at no cost.

Supporting Your Best Work

Each of these tools streamlines work that is critical to most research projects: hunting through databases, reformatting citations, renaming PDFs, hunting down a reference you know you read somewhere.

  • Consensus points you to the papers worth your attention, so more of your reading time goes to the studies that matter to your question.
  • Scopus AI shows you the larger shape of a field, from the landmark studies that started a conversation to where it is heading now, which is especially useful when framing a thesis, dissertation, or grant proposal.
  • Paperpile keeps your sources accurate and complete from the start, which means fewer citation surprises at the end.
  • iThenticate lets you review your own manuscript before you submit it, so a stray quotation mark or a paraphrase that drifted too close to the original is something you catch and fix on your own terms.

Consensus and Scopus AI are designed to work side by side. Consensus gives you a fast read on what the evidence says about a specific question, and Scopus AI helps you build a comprehensive picture of the scholarship surrounding it.

Taken as a set, these tools make careful, well-documented scholarship the easy path rather than the effortful one. The Research Compliance Office is glad to help you get started with any of them, and our Responsible Conduct of Research resources are here whenever a question comes up.
