Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny are two of the 20th Century’s best-known children’s books.  Written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd, Goodnight Moon is a celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, while The Runaway Bunny’s pretend tale of leaving home evokes reassuring responses from his loving mum.  Both tales feature endearing rabbit characters, and the soothing rhythms of bunny banter and dream-like imagery never fail to infuse young readers with a reassuring sense of security.  Brought to life on stage by Mermaid Theatre through the use of a variety of styles of puppetry including rod and tabletop puppets to tell the two stories.   Part of the visual magic for Goodnight Moon will come from the use of black light which causes fluorescent colors to glow in the dark.  Grades PreK-3.  Puppetry, visual art, rhyming, parent/child relationship, rhythmic patterns
