Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University. He is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, literary scholar, journalist, and cultural critic and has authored seventeen books and created fourteen documentary films. Host of the popular show Finding Your Roots, Professor Gates is one of the United States’ most influential cultural critics and is both an eloquent commentator and formidable intellectual force on multicultural and African American issues.

The lecture will include a moderated discussion conducted by UCA journalist Dr. Donna Lampkin Stephens, a preview performance of one of the arias of the Little Rock Nine opera (Tania León, composer) and audience Q&A.

A Charlie Brown Christmas, the Emmy® and Peabody award-winning story by Charles M. Schulz, has warmed the hearts of millions of fans since it first aired on television over fifty years ago. Now the classic animated television special comes to life in this faithful stage adaptation featuring all of your favorite characters and classic Vince Guaraldi score. Join, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the Peanuts gang as they mount a play, save a tree and uncover the true meaning of Christmas. The performance will run 80 minutes, with one intermission.

After the performance, there will be a fun concert of favorite Christmas tunes performed by the cast. The audience is invited to join along on some of the classic holiday songs. Stick around after the show, and sing along!
