Getting to Know Dr. Rumble

Introduction

I’m originally from the Shoals area, which is right by the Tennessee River in Northwest Alabama, and I spent roughly a decade in Birmingham before moving to Conway. The job opportunity at UCA, paired with a welcoming community, felt like an ideal fit. The region’s rivers and waterways remind me a lot where I’m from, and I was drawn to UCA not only for the career prospects but also for the chance to make a meaningful impact on the community.
Where did you get your degrees?
I earned my B.A. in Psychology with a minor in chemistry from the University of North Alabama (UNA), followed by an M.S. in Experimental Psychology from the University of South Alabama (USA). I then completed a graduate certificate in how to teach at the college level while I was working on my Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). I then also obtained a Graduate Certificate from the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning Scholar Concentration while working on my postdoctoral fellowship in Pain Science at UAB.
What year did you start working for the department?
2021
What classes do you regularly teach?
I regularly teach a section of apprenticeship and courses related to experimental psychology, including psychological statistics, physiological psychology, and cognitive psychology. Every spring, I teach Health Psychology, which is one of my favorite courses. Occasionally, I also teach Intro Psychology and Research Methods.
Do you have any hobbies or unique facts you would like to share?
I enjoy building Legos (love the Botanicals), trivia, watching documentaries, listening to music, and watching anime. I also really love foreign languages from learning to speak and understand, singing in other languages, and honestly I’m just fascinated by the process of secondary language acquisition. Fun fact: I can sing the alphabet backwards!
What are your scholarly and/or applied interests?
My primary research focuses on pain and cognition, and the work is highly hands-on. I engage students in applied research experiences that delve deeply into these areas, but please note that the research can be quite intense and requires strong dedication. It’s a challenging but rewarding experience for those ready to fully commit.
