Kendra Anderson Wins APA Award

Counseling Psychology doctoral student, Kendra Anderson, has been awarded the Diversity Research Award from the American Psychological Association Division 41 (Psychology and Law) for her dissertation research, “African American Male Inmates and Racial and Ethic Identity: Risk and Protective Factors.” This is a nationally competitive award and includes $1,000 to fund her study.

Dr. Femina Varghese is her Dissertation Chairperson.

School Psychology Graduate Program Ranked in Top 50 Nationwide

Best Counseling Degrees recently announced their rankings for doctoral programs in School Psychology. The top 50 programs in the US were ranked based on pass rates of the Examination for the Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP).
UCA’s School Psychology program was ranked 34th.

Michael & Lenora are both school psychology doctoral students.

Cory Cobb (with Dr. Xie as mentor) receives Psi Chi grant

Cory Cobb, a Counseling Psychology Doctoral Student, was selected as a recipient of the 2015 Mamie Phipps Clark grant from Psi Chi, the International Honor Society of Psychology, for his project titled, “Acculturation, Collective Self-esteem, and Well-being among Undocumented Hispanic Immigrants in the U.S.” The award is for $1,500. This grant is specifically for projects that address minority issues.

Kelli Wierzbicki awarded SURF grant

Dr. Charlton( mentor) and student Kelli Wierzbicki have been awarded a SURF grant for their project titled: “Get to Work! Encouraging Academic Engagement in Undergraduates”.

Allen Thomas, doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at UCA will discuss the use of video games in therapy on Thursday, Nov 5, at x-period in MAS 239. The discussion is hosted by the UCA Psychological Society.

Dr. Shawn Charlton recognized by Psi Chi

Dr. Shawn Charlton has been recognized as Psi Chi’s 2014-2015 Top Reviewer for his work reviewing regional and international grants, awards, fellowships, conference submissions, and manuscripts for Psi Chi’s various programs and journals.

Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology and was founded in 1929 for the purpose of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship and advancing the science of psychology.

Dr. Paul Nail featured in article on bullying

Our very own Dr. Paul Nail was featured in a SYNC Magazine article on bullying. He was interviewed about the findings of the NIH Bullying grant with Dr. Joan Simon and Elson Bihm.
