Accessible Spaces in Person and Online
Mar 9 | 10am-11am | Zoom | Register
In Arkansas, approximately one in three adults currently experiences a disability, and disabilities are more prevalent among people with lower incomes, with nearly two-thirds of people who experience long-term poverty having a disability. For nonprofits to effectively serve our communities, it’s essential for us to ensure that nonprofits’ services are accessible and adaptable for people across all spectrums of mobility, cognition, hearing and vision, and independent living, but structural changes can be difficult to implement. Presenters Doris Pierce, director of the office of accessibility resources at the University of Central Arkansas, and Jeanna Atkinson, assistive technology specialist at the University of Central Arkansas, will provide a user-centered perspective and practical tips for improving access to your physical spaces and online resources.
Sexual Harassment, Professional Boundaries, and Mandatory Reporting
Apr 4 | 2-3:30pm | BHCC | Register
Nonprofit leaders and employees often go above and beyond to meet critical needs in the community, and this level of commitment and depth of relationships with coworkers and community members can sometimes create challenges for maintaining professional boundaries, and can also place employees in a position to have a greater level of responsibility to ensure that children and adults in the community are safe from abuse. Britni Elder, associate vice president of human resources and risk management at the University of Central Arkansas will over an overview of the responsibilities and best practices for organizations and employees to follow in order to comply with Arkansas law and best care for themselves and others.

View Recording | Shelley Mehl, Lesley Graybeal, Charlotte Green, Don Greenland, Aaron Knight, Jackie Wright
If you are looking for a way to serve your local community and support causes that you care about, serving on a nonprofit board is one of the best ways to make a meaningful impact. But what does board service really mean? UCA Outreach and the Faulkner County affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation will provide training on board member basics to walk you through the typical roles and responsibilities of a board member, the importance of nonprofits having diverse and inclusive boards, experiences and insights from a panel of current board members on how to make the most of your time on a nonprofit board.
Cross-Cultural Alliances in the Community
View Recording | Dr. Candice Barnes
As communities become more diverse, it is critical to engage in a deep and continual exploration of self and others to deepen understanding of an individual’s narratives and identity perceptions. This allows one to activate thinking, behavior, and action to create an ethos to build cross-cultural alliances. These types of alliances are balanced on humility, inclusion, and equity practices. Non-profit organizations are uniquely positioned to demonstrate de-biasing, decoupling, and mindset changes—three countermeasures to foster the development of strong alliances, effective advocates, and intentional allies.
Equipping Nonprofit Boards for Donor Development
View Recording | Ashley Coldiron, Jessica Crum, Jessica Hughes, Drew Spurgers, Pete Tanguay
No matter what your nonprofit’s mission or daily operations look like, fundraising makes up at least some of your revenue stream, and in the current economic climate, innovative approaches to fundraising needs are more important than ever. Whether a nonprofit has a dedicated development team or an all-volunteer staff, board members can provide some of the creative energy, professional expertise, and community networks needed to expand your organization’s approach to fundraising. This workshop offered by UCA Outreach and the Faulkner County affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation for nonprofit leaders and board members will consider how board members can better leverage their own skills and assets to support nonprofits’ fundraising and donor stewardship, as well as how nonprofits and board members can use social media to communicate with donors year-round.
