Phonics & Feelings 2
As a parent or guardian, you aim to find opportunities and experiences to aid in increasing your child’s intelligence. More and more in our society, we are seeing that not only is it important to develop educational intelligence, it is equally as important to cultivate emotional intelligence. CubsREAD is once again ready to provide a supplemental learning experience along both fronts with Phonics & Feelings 2!
In this multi-week course, your student will review the basic sounds for each letter of the alphabet, helping them to sound out unfamiliar words. We will also include craft activities to enrich the learning experience.
This semester, we will continue working on emotional intelligence with literacy but with different emotions. We will discuss resilience, embarrassment, pride, fear, patience, disappointment, stress and courage. (Last semester focused on gratefulness, loneliness, frustration, confidence, jealousy, curiosity, nervousness and calmness.)
Our curriculum combines a comprehensive reading readiness component – focusing on phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary – with essential topics like emotional literacy, coping strategies, social connections, and self-expression. By fostering these crucial areas, we aim to create a well-rounded foundation that allows your child to flourish both academically and personally.
The curriculum is developed and administered by current UCA students with direction and oversight provided by faculty and graduate-level students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
