Dr. Mary Harlan will be recognized as a Legend in Family & Consumer Sciences at the 107th Annual Conference and Expo this June in Washington state. (http://www.aafcs.org/meetings/16/fcslegends.html) Congratulations Dr. Harlan, we are SO VERY proud of you and your accomplishments over the years!

ArAND Honors UCA Dietetics
The annual meeting of the Arkansas affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics was a great time for UCA. Ethan Baldridge was awarded the Undergraduate Dietetic Student of the Year Award, Vincent Suha was awarded Dietetic Intern of the Year and Lea Hyland was awarded Educator of the Year. A HUGE congrats to these deserving students and faculty!

Community Nutrition Goes to the Farm
On April 12th Mrs. Schichtl’s Community Nutrition visited the Conway Urban Farm which is located behind the Faulkner County Library. They helped plant and water the garden and could even take a vegetable plant home with them! They learned about local food systems, ways to use fruits and vegetables in healthy cooking, and ways to season foods with herbs instead of other
less healthy options of flavor. They worked hard and based on the reflections received, learned a lot!
Recycle and Redesign
It’s AMAZING what our students can do with so little. Check out Mrs. Luong’s class projects. Some students created pieces with assistance of FACS 1370 and 3361 instructors. Pictured projects include:
–dog bed using old quilts, t-shirts, and comforters
–plastic bag holder from recycled materials (and recycle bags)
–quilt from grandmothers leftover fabric
–t-shirt quilt using old t-shirts and recycled buttons and fabric
–curtillow–pillow using old curtains
–child’s dress using dad’s old denim shirt
