The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) is excited to announce the launch of a comprehensive campus-wide survey designed to gather input from students, faculty, and staff to guide the university’s next strategic plan. The survey will play a critical role in identifying priorities that will help the institution continue to thrive and build a sustainable future aligned with the needs of its diverse community.
As UCA embarks on a new phase of growth and transformation, the strategic planning survey is an essential tool for gathering feedback on what matters most to the campus community. Focusing on student success, innovation, community engagement, and sustainability, this survey will help shape the university’s development over the next ten years.
The university is dedicated to utilizing the survey results to prioritize initiatives and create actionable goals that will promote academic excellence, enrich campus life, and reaffirm UCA’s position as a leader in higher education—with an ongoing emphasis on improving access to education and ensuring affordability for all students.
The survey will be open from Wednesday, February 28, 2025, to Friday, March 7, 2025, and all UCA students, faculty, and staff are strongly encouraged to participate. The responses will be anonymous and will help guide decision-making for the university’s strategic objectives moving forward.
To participate in the survey, please visit uca.edu/go/strategicsurvey2025.
All respondents can enter their email in a prize drawing for a $100 UCA Bookstore gift certificate. Five prizes will be awarded.
For more information about the survey or the strategic planning process, visit uca.edu/strategic.

The Center for Global Learning and Engagement invites all UCA faculty to participate in the fifth Annual Global Learning Institute, May 19-20, 2025. The first day’s training is on COIL, or Collaborative Online International Learning, and will be led by Dr. Riva Brown, former UCA Professor of Public Relations and Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Greater Arkansas. Dr Brown completed numerous COIL collaborations while at UCA. The second half-day will include a faculty panel on integrating the UN SDGs in the classroom. Faculty who register receive a stipend of $100. COIL truly is a powerful methodology for engaging students with other cultures in a 5 week collaboration. The target semester for your COIL collaboration would be spring 2026, although fall 2025 is also possible if we can find you a partner before the end of May. You can either ask an international colleague whom you know to work with you, or CGLE will help you look for a partner. COIL courses offer a great opportunity to enrich UCA students’ learning by asking students to collaborate with students from another country.
See this online list of COIL universities: https://coilconnect.org/

As part of UCA’s SDG Action and Awareness week we are offering what promises to be a powerful program dedicated to keeping the stories of Holocaust survivors alive. Three UCA students — Torrie Herrington, Cooper Horton, and Brenna Metts — recently named Lesaper Fellows (“Lesaper” is Hebrew for “to tell.”) through the Teach the Shoah organization will be sharing the stories of three Holocaust survivors crafted from in-person interviews.

The University of Central Arkansas will host Bear Biographies in the UCA Torreyson Library (2nd floor) on the UCA campus on Tuesday, April 8th, from 12-4 p.m. The drop-in event is free and open to the public.
The Bear Biographies program is inspired by The Human Library, which UCA has hosted annually since 2019. Bear Biographies will create a safe framework for personal conversations that can help challenge prejudice and contribute to greater human cohesion across social, religious, and ethnic identities. Individuals volunteering as “human books” are people who have volunteered to represent a stigmatized group in the community and share their personal experiences through 20-minute conversations with participants or “readers.” Books can answer questions from readers and help challenge stigmas and stereotypes through dialogue. UCA students, faculty, staff, and community members have volunteered to talk about their unique experiences, such as holding public office, experiences with immigration, surviving an eating disorder, and more.
