The Center for Global Learning and Engagement at the University of Central Arkansas is honored to host a Kwibuka remembrance event on April 21, 2024 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the genocide of the Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda on April 7, 1994. Kwibuka, which means “remember” in Kinyarwanda, is an annual period of remembrance, unity, and renewal that lasts for 100 days after April 7 each year.
We are pleased that Ambassador Mathilde Mukantabana will attend the ceremony. In preparing to host this event, we are inspired by the words of one survivor, Mekha Rousseau:
“Rwanda to the World is a sign of faith, hope and courage. Rwandans committed the genocide. We started it. We ended it. We had to build the nation again. The World needs to learn from Rwanda that everything is possible.” (Kigali Genocide Memorial)
Please see the graphic below for more details concerning the event, and RSVP here if you are able to attend.
