NIH Proposes New Framework for Peer Review
by Wellons, Richard N.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is proposing to simplify its peer review framework for NIH project grant applications. Currently, NIH applications are evaluated based on five scored criteria: Significance, Investigators, Innovation, Approach, and Environment. The proposed new framework would reorganize these five criteria into three factors: Factor 1 – Importance of the Research; Factor 2 – Feasibility and Rigor; and Factor 3 – Expertise and Resources. Read more about the new proposed new review framework here (https://grants.nih.gov/policy/peer/Proposed-Framework/index.htm) and submit comments here (https://www2.ed.gov/programs/iegpsgpa/applicant.html) by March 10, 2023.
