Mission of the Honors in the Major Program

The Honors in the Major at the University of Central Arkansas identifies undergraduate students who have exhibited exemplary performance in their chosen major, provides them with opportunities to pursue advanced, focused research, scholarship, or creative activity in the student’s primary area of study, and develops them as scholars empowered to fulfill their potential to promote the advancement of knowledge.

Goals

The goals of the Honors in the Major Program are:

  • to allow students the opportunity to explore their chosen major in greater depth and with greater personal ownership;
  • to develop their own project and become intimately involved in the process of research and authorship;
  • to develop technical skills in their field, learn how to read relevant literature, and gain invaluable experience communicating their results with oral and written projects;
  • to extend the departmental or disciplinary vision into individual student work in new and creative ways; and
  • to facilitate mentorship and scholarly guidance from a faculty mentor.
