The Hudson-Fowler Prize for Poetry

This prize has been established by the University of Central Arkansas and its College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences to honor the invaluable contributions of the journal’s two longest-serving editors (Richard Hudson and Jim Fowler) and to recognize truly distinctive originality and quality of poetic expression.

Beginning with the Spring 2023 issue and continuing with each Spring issue moving forward, editors of SLANT will select from among the previous year’s submissions the group of 3-5 poems from a single poet that is judged to be deserving of special recognition.

There is no separate application for the prize required. All contributors who submit at least 3 poems and have at least one poem accepted for publication during either submission period are eligible for consideration.

The prize carries a cash award of $500, and the winning group of poems will appear in the Spring issue each year, beginning in 2023.
