Department of Computer Science and Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UCA is the second-largest department of its kind in Arkansas. Our mission is to serve the region, state, and nation by providing high-quality programs in computer science and engineering. Our department is recognized for its high standards of education, cutting-edge research, state-of-the-art facilities, award-winning faculty, and dedicated staff.

We offer programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, the Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, the Bachelor of Science in Data Science, the Master of Science in Computer Science, a concentration in Data Science, and a minor in Computer Science.

Bear Facts About the Department

  • We have over 400 students, making us the fourth-largest department in UCA and the second-largest department of its kind in the state.
  • We have 13 full-time faculty members and 2 full-time staff members.
  • We offer nearly 30 classes each fall/spring and about 10 classes each summer.
  • Our BS program in Computer Science started in 1980. The program has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org, since 2006.
  • We have three registered student organizations, namely the Computer Science Club, Cybersecurity Club, and Girls Who Code.
  • Thanks to our central location and proximity to the state capital, we have many IT employers around us. These companies provide our students with paid internships and employment opportunities. Our graduates have also taken jobs at internationally recognized companies such as Amazon, Apple, Expedia, FedEx, HP, Intel, LinkedIn, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Pfizer, Shopify, and Verizon.
  • We are one of the most research-active departments at UCA. Our faculty brings a sizeable percentage of UCA’s annual federal research funding.
  • We have one of the few educational cyber ranges in the US.
  • We have recently purchased a supercomputer using an NSF MRI grant.
