Educator Preparation Programs

Requirements for teacher licensure vary by state and may involve more than successful degree completion. Graduates who apply for licensure may need to satisfy other requirements, such as completing an application, paying a fee, and passing associated state licensure exams. Completion of an education licensure program offered through an Arkansas institution may not qualify a graduate to obtain a teaching license in any other state.

The following UCA programs of study are approved by the Arkansas Department of Education, Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (ADE-DESE) as educator preparation programs. Degree and certificate programs are approved by the Arkansas Department of Education, Division of Higher Education (ADE-DHE). UCA’s teacher education programs are accredited at the initial teacher preparation and advanced levels by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Students who successfully complete the programs and pass all associated state licensure exams are eligible to be recommended for Arkansas Educator licensure or endorsement.

The following abbreviations are used to indicate the various types of programs of study available: BA = Bachelor of Arts, BME = Bachelor of Music Education, BS = Bachelor of Science, BSE = Bachelor of Science in Education, EdS = Educational Specialist Degree, GC = Graduate Certificate, MAT = Master of Arts in Teaching, MS = Master of Science, MSE = Master of Science in Education, ND = Non-degree/certificate endorsement curriculum, PMC = Post-Master’s Certificate.

The following table lists all U.S. states and discloses, in accordance with federal regulations, one of the following: (1) UCA’s education preparation programs (EPPs) meet state education requirements for licensure or certification or (2) UCA’s EPPs do not meet state education requirements for licensure or certification. Students interested in obtaining a teaching license or endorsement in another state should check with the applicable licensing authority in that state to determine the state’s education requirements for eligibility for licensure. The US Department of Education maintains a comprehensive and searchable list of state departments of education at https://www2.ed.gov/about/contacts/state/index.html.
