Joining a Residential College Step-by-Step

Living and Learning in Community Involves Both Application and Housing Processes

Are you 18+ or 17 and under?  It makes a difference because students 18+ can legally sign contracts. Students under 18 must have a parent/guardian sign in addition.  Applying to live on campus involves signing a legal contract; consequently, there are two different ways to apply for housing depending on your age on the day you apply. You will quickly find that going to university (like many things in adult life)  involves following a number of processes. Skip even one component and you may find things will not go as you planned. In order to help you complete everything you need to in a timely fashion, follow these three steps for students under 18 or for students 18+:

For Students Under 18

Step 1: Applying for Housing Under 18 (so much more than a bed to sleep in; a place to brush your teeth)

There are 3 important parts of the housing packet you need to complete when applying for a place to live on campus: 1. The Housing Application, 2. The Housing Lease, and 3. The $100 Housing Deposit. Skip any one of these parts and you will find your housing packet is not completeTHESE ARE SIMPLY 3 PARTS OF ONE HOUSING PACKET; CONSEQUENTLY, IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU SUBMIT YOUR COMPLETED HOUSING PACKET ALL TOGETHER.

1. The Housing Application is important because it is where you can indicate room mate preferences, indicate what type of living environment you prefer, and (of course!) which Residential College/s for which you wish to apply. Go to this link and you will find the 2015-2016 Housing Application: http://uca.edu/housing/files/2014/09/Housing-Application-15-16.pdf. You will notice the Housing Application is divided into two choices for freshmen: Freshman Residence Halls and Freshman Residential Colleges. Make sure to rank 1 (highest) to 4 (lowest) the Residential College choices. If you need a refresher on EDGE@Hughes, HPaW@Baridon, The Stars@Short/Denney or STEM@Arkansas, go to http://uca.edu/residential/.  You can also consult the UCA Residential Colleges view book at http://www.bluetoad.com/publication/?i=264488.

Once you have completed the Housing Application, you can FAX it to 501.450.5374 or scan and email it to housing@uca.edu. You can also snail mail it to University of Central Arkansas, Department of Housing & Residence Life, 201 Donaghey Ave, Bernard Hall Suite 201, Conway, AR 72035.

You are not done; now there is part #2.

2. You must complete the 2015-2016 Housing Lease at http://uca.edu/housing/files/2014/10/Housing-Lease-15-16.pdf.  This is a legal contract that your parent/guardian must sign if you are not yet 18 years old. This document tells you about the housing lease you are signing, as well as the rights and responsibilities of living on-campus. UCA Board Policy #701 says that single freshmen under 21 years old are required to live on campus or in a parent/guardian permanent home. You must also be a full-time students as defined by the University Registrar's Office to live on-campus.  You will need to FAX the Housing Lease to 501.450.5374 or scan and email it to housing@uca.edu. You may also snail mail it to: University of Central Arkansas, Department of Housing & Residence Life, 201 Donaghey Ave, Bernard Hall Suite 201, Conway, AR 72035.

You are still not done; there is one more part.

3. The third part is to pay your $100 Housing Deposit. This can be done on-line in a few clicks:
