Come experience the vision for middle school science!   *NEW LESSON EXPERIENCES & PHENOMENA*
During this three-day opportunity, educators will explore science phenomena, reflect on instructional strategies, and make connections to the new Arkansas K-12 Science Standards. Student-focused learning through the application of science, math and literacy skills will be highlighted.  This PD is revised every year and is a progression of learning based on the year of implementation for the targeted grade band. Shifting instruction to meet the needs of today’s’ learner as well as support for success on the ACT Aspire and ACT Test.

  • Two follow-up PD days will be offered along with opportunities for classroom-level support.
  • Participation in all three days of this session meets the ADE requirement for Pre-Advanced Placement Science (Pre-AP) teacher certification or recertification.
  • This session DOES NOT fulfil the ADE licensure requirements to teach high school Physical Science – Integrated for high school credit at the 8th-grade level.

ADI 101: Introduction to Argument-Driven Inquiry Instruction Model

During this workshop, participants will have an opportunity to learn about the ADI instructional model by participating in all eight stages of an ADI lab investigation from start to finish. The participants will then have time to reflect on their experiences during the lab investigation and ask clarifying questions. Finally, the participants will see how ADI is aligned with the state standards for Science and English-Language Arts and learn about ways to support students during each stage of the approach.  Each participant receives ADI Lab Ebook for his/her content area.

Evidence and Explanation: Implementing Science Practices Using HHMI BioInteractive Resources

Use free, classroom-ready resources to teach concepts in biology and environmental science as part of this all-day workshop! We will demonstrate and reflect on techniques for teaching topics in ecology, including data analysis and constructing explanations. This session is appropriate for all levels of high school biology and environmental science. Middle school teachers are welcome to attend.
