Dr. Melissa Allen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy as well as a licensed physical therapist. Dr. Allen received her PhD in Physical Therapy in 2015 from the University of Central Arkansas where she also received her DPT degree in 2007. Her clinical practice specialties are adult neurologic rehabilitation and geriatrics in the outpatient and home health settings. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and is also certified in LSVT-BIG® for treatment of clients with Parkinson’s Disease and movement disorders.
Dr. Allen currently teaches Adult Neurological Rehabilitation, Clinical Foundations, Neurophysiological Principles of Motor Control and Professional Development II. Her research interests are cognitive neuroscience and geriatric wellness. She continues to be clinically active by providing pro-bono physical therapy services to adults with neurologic conditions while engaging DPT students in patient care.
