The University of Central Arkansas’s Baum Gallery will once again host the annual Student Art Competitive (ASAC) March 3-13. An opening reception will be held March 3 at 4 p.m.
During this event, UCA students are allowed to submit up to three different pieces for possible inclusion. All works are then juried, and multiple awards are given. This is an opportunity for students to participate in a competitive, curated museum exhibition.
This year’s juror is Amy Raehse. She is the executive director and partner of Goya Contemporary Gallery and Goya-Girl Press in Baltimore, which represents emerging and mid-career artists in an international program focused on post-war and contemporary art in both primary and secondary markets. Goya Contemporary Gallery promotes art and culture by presenting new works and ideas through curatorial practice, publishing and artist representation. Goya-Girl Press works with artists to create unique fine art editions. Established in 1996, the press has completed hundreds of projects throughout the country. For more than 20 years, Goya has participated in art fairs in Miami, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, among other locations.
The ASAC exhibition allows students to view their work in a more critical way than the BA/BFA show.
“We encourage all art students at the university to submit for the competitive,” said Brian Young, director of Baum Gallery. “It gives them an opportunity to participate, meaningfully, in a museum setting.”
All UCA students, regardless of major, are welcome to participate. Artwork must be submitted at Baum Gallery between Feb. 17 and 21. Submission hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The names of participating artists will be posted on the doors of the Baum Gallery on Feb. 25, 2020. All accepted works will be installed in the Baum Gallery.
