The University of Central Arkansas will proudly host installation artist Crystal Wagner as an Artist in Residence from March 2-21.
Wagner holds an MFA from the University of Tennessee. In 2013, she was awarded the highly coveted Pollock-Krasner Grant. Wagner’s interest in combining 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional forms, alternative use of materials, and massive site-specific installations, have led to her artwork being exhibited globally. Commissions include installations for NIKE’s KOBE x Blackout Experience, Bombay Sapphire, TOYOTA, and Warner Brothers, “Get Animated Invasion,” at LA’s Grammy Museum. Her two works for Viacom, including a 117 ft. piece at their headquarters in Times Square, were featured by the New York Times and VH1’s Top 20 Countdown.
“We are honored to host a new site-specific installation by artist Crystal Wagner,” says faculty sponsor Leslie Macklin Rice. “More than just a sculpture, her work will transform the physical experience of the Windgate building, inviting the community to come together in the creation and celebration of a monumental piece. This project fosters connections between artistic and academic disciplines, uniting students and community members while sparking dialogue on environmental sustainability. I am excited to see her work energize the space and inspire all who encounter it.”
All students, faculty, staff, and the public are invited to participate in the creation of the work.
Wagner’s residency will include two public events:
- March 4: Artist Talk by Crystal Wagner (free and open to the public) — 6-7 p.m., Windgate Center 167
- March 20: Unveiling Ceremony (free and open to the public) — 4 p.m., Windgate Center
Wagner will also host workshops with UCA students throughout the residency. This residency is sponsored by the UCA College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Studies.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024-25, the UCA Artists in Residence program is funded by UCA arts fees with additional support from Engage Management and Pyramid Art, Books, and Custom Framing. These events are free to UCA students and open to the public. No tickets are required. Events are located on the UCA campus, 201 Donaghey Ave, Conway, AR 72035.
