PAUL L. REVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CELEBRATES UCA STUDENT AND VETERAN

The Paul L. Revis Memorial Scholarship has been established at the University of Central Arkansas in memory of student Paul L. Revis, who was a 24-year-old freshman history major and Presidential Scholar from Conway. Revis passed away in March 2019.

The memorial scholarship, in celebration of a life of service to others and dedication to learning, was established with gifts to the UCA Foundation from Revis’ family and friends.

A former Conway High School Wampus Cat, Revis was a letterman linebacker who was described to the press by his coaches as a hardworking and “gritty” contributor. After graduating with honors in 2013, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as an artillery cannon crewmember, earning the rank of corporal.

His parents and professors say Revis was an exceptional college student with a passion for history and a love of learning. As a freshman history major, he was employed in the university’s history department, where faculty and staff encouraged him to reach his goal of earning a history degree. He aspired to eventually earn a law degree and aid the underserved as a public defender, where his family is sure his “grittiness” would have been a valuable asset to many. Revis was recently posthumously admitted to the UCA Norbert O. Schedler Honors College, based on his pending application to the program.

“Through community engagement, service to our country as a member of the United States Army and his support of family and friends, Paul was always ready to help others,” said his mother, Londa Revis. “He would be proud that this scholarship will provide assistance to hardworking UCA students, helping them achieve their dreams of a college education.”

The scholarship recipient must be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior student pursuing a degree in history, political science or an area of public service. To qualify, applicants must have completed 24 credit hours or more while maintaining a 3.3 minimum GPA in their previous academic year at UCA. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated service as a veteran and/or demonstrated service in another area of public service and to students in the Honors College with a financial need.

“Endowed scholarships are a great way to celebrate and honor loved ones while helping remove financial barriers for students,” said Kale Gober, vice president for University Advancement. “Endowed funds are structured to hold their principal intact, while investment income creates perpetual impact for future generations.”
