Mauldin recognized by American Chemical Society

Robert Mauldin

University of Central Arkansas Professor Robert Mauldin recently received the Professor of the Year Award from the Central Arkansas Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

The award is awarded annually at a special banquet and is open to any chemistry professor or instructor at a university or college in the jurisdiction of the Central Arkansas Section of ACS. Each student chapter may submit one letter nominating a chemistry professor who has made a difference in the lives of students.

Mauldin is a professor of analytical chemistry in the UCA Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

The executive council of the UCA student affiliates section of the ACS nominated Mauldin, with student Natalie Stocks writing the nomination.

In the letter of nomination, Stocks stated that Mauldin “cultivated an environment where students were inspired to ask questions, and, no matter what their background or skill level, were empowered to succeed.” The nomination letter included the statement that Mauldin practices a “unique incorporation of philosophy into his teaching, which proves particularly effective in a chemistry course….by encouraging students to questions assumptions, explore the underlying principles of scientific theories, and reflect on the broader implications of chemical concepts, Dr. Mauldin fosters a deeper understanding of the material.”

With this award, Mauldin becomes the third faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in recent memory. Faith Yarberry and Greg Naumiec have also received this award previously.
