SLANT and Vortex will co-host a spring semester Poetry Coffeehouse at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 6, in the Fireplace Room of McCastlain Hall. This event, which is open to both undergraduate and graduate students in any academic discipline, is designed to provide student writers with an opportunity to showcase their creative work.
Students may read up to three poems, which can be either original or from a favorite poet. Other students, faculty, and members of the UCA community are invited to attend in support of our student poets.
To be added to the line-up of readers, students should contact Macy Cloninger, Graduate Assistant for SLANT, at mcloninger@cub.uca.edu.
SLANT is UCA’s journal of contemporary poetry, now in its 40th year. Twice annually, it publishes original work by some of the finest poets from around the United States and beyond. Now in its 51st year, Vortex is an award-winning literary and art magazine run for, with, and by UCA students who comprise the editorial staff and make all editorial decisions.

As companies cut costs to stay within their budgets, essential needs such as employee training are being sacrificed, resulting in less competent leaders and minimal team development and cohesion with lower-quality work output. Outreach & Community Engagement is seeking to fill these training gaps for organizations through a new initiative – Workplace ASSIST (Awareness, Soft Skills and Innovative Specialty Trainings). Our ultimate goal is to provide a customizable menu of training options focusing on the interpersonal and collaborative skills often missing from today’s workplace.
UCA Outreach & Community Engagement is in the early stages of developing a new set of professional skills training offerings for industry partners and community members, and we are seeking faculty and staff interest in sharing your expertise as an instructor. Professional skills training would be offered in a workshop format and instructors would be paid a stipend per workshop from Outreach & Community Engagement based on fees collected.
Please complete the Faculty Interest Form to express your interest, and a member of the Community Learning and Workforce Services Team will reach out to you for more details as we move forward. Any questions can be directed to Mr. Reuel Shepherd at rshepherd@uca.edu.
