Join us for The Making of Our Planet Frozen Worlds, a new and immersive live show featuring behind-the-scenes stories from the explorers, filmmakers, scientists, and adventurers that created some of the most eye-catching footage of our planet.
With a focus on climate fragility and climate migration, The Making of Our Planet tells an unprecedented story about overcoming obstacles on a global scale and explores the messages at the heart of these action-packed, emotional, and unforgettable sequences. Host Huw Cordey will lead audiences through the screening and conversation. Huw will take us behind the scenes of Frozen Worlds, revealing the challenges of filming in some of the planet’s most extreme environments while following walrus and polar bears in their icy habitats. With a wealth of experience capturing wildlife across diverse climates, he’ll also share fascinating stories from warmer regions and explore how climate change is reshaping ecosystems and the lives of the creatures that call Earth’s landscapes home.
Tickets for this event are $5 for UCA community and children/students. UCA students are FREE. General public tickets are $15.

Bear Biographies: A Library of Lived Experiences is an annual outreach event hosted by the library with support from multiple campus partners. It is an opportunity for our campus to come together and learn from folks who come from different lived experiences and backgrounds by engaging in meaningful conversations.
Participants can either be Books or Readers. Books sign up in advance to share about aspects of their identities where they have experienced prejudice and bias. Readers attend the event and engage in dialogue with the Books by asking thoughtful questions about their experiences.
The goal of Bear Biographies is to break down barriers caused by harmful stereotypes and build a stronger, more connected campus community. Please join us on Tuesday, April 8th, from 12-4 in Torreyson Library. It is a drop-in event, so come by whenever you have time!

The Center for Global Learning and Engagement invites all UCA faculty to participate in the fifth Annual Global Learning Institute, May 19-20, 2025. The first day’s training is on COIL, or Collaborative Online International Learning, and will be led by Dr. Riva Brown, former UCA Professor of Public Relations and Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Greater Arkansas. Dr Brown completed numerous COIL collaborations while at UCA. The second half-day will include a faculty panel on integrating the UN SDGs in the classroom. Faculty who register receive a stipend of $100. COIL truly is a powerful methodology for engaging students with other cultures in a 5 week collaboration. The target semester for your COIL collaboration would be spring 2026, although fall 2025 is also possible if we can find you a partner before the end of May. You can either ask an international colleague whom you know to work with you, or CGLE will help you look for a partner. COIL courses offer a great opportunity to enrich UCA students’ learning by asking students to collaborate with students from another country.
See this online list of COIL universities: https://coilconnect.org/

Please inform graduate students, as well as undergraduate students, that Graduate School Appreciation Week (GSAW) is near!
Highlights of the week include free professional headshots for graduates on April 8th and a GSAW Barkanalia—an outdoor mixer on April 10th from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., where there will be snacks, music, and games, and students, staff, and faculty can bring their dogs! At this Barkanalia event, we’ll have tables representing some of our graduate programs, so undergraduate students are more than welcome to engage in conversations with their future programs!
Also, be on the lookout for the grad school pop-ups around campus that week!

Dr. Veneta Fricks, Associate Dean of Students, has been chosen to present her program “Consequence, Compassion, CARE and Common Sense” in a webinar series hosted by the Association of Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA). Dr. Fricks originally made the presentation at the ASCA National Conference in Portland, OR in February. The decision to include Dr. Fricks’ program was based on attendee feedback and requests, as well as ASCA leadership review. Only four programs of the over 90 presented at the conference were chosen to be part of the series. Participants of the program, which will be presented by Dr. Fricks on April 25, will receive Continuing Education Credits toward the Higher Education Consortium for Student Affairs Certification.
