Dr. Brittany Tucker, a new Assistant Professor in the department of Exercise and Sport Science has recently earned two grants to support research studies examining the impact of exercise type and intensity on short-term blood sugar regulation in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus.
The grants include the UCA University Research Counsel grant, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Arkansas IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Summer Research Grant.
Findings from these studies will shed light on potential non-pharmacological means to control blood sugar in a pregnant population that has trouble managing it.
