Description
Public libraries have become the activity hub for many communities, and Faulkner County’s main library in Conway is no exception, with over a quarter of a million people passing through its doors in 2012. This internship position invites students to help juggle the tasks of assisting patrons and inviting participants to join the many activities the library sponsors and supports. Further, students interning at the library may engage in grant writing, fund-raising, and other special projects.
Students can hone their writing skills in a number of ways and learn about the following:
- How writing skills are applied in a practical setting
- How to market the library through writing press releases and using social media
- How to plan, host, and assess an event
- How to use research in report writing
- How to write a successful grant
- How a library system works

Selection & Qualifications
The internship is competitive, with selection based on a resume and an application portfolio highlighting strong written communication skills, internet savvy, interpersonal skills and strong faculty advisor recommendation.
Students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.25 in their degree program to qualify for this internship. Further, applicants should have completed at least nine hours of writing courses at the 3000-level.
Application Process and Deadlines
Interested students will need to prepare an application package that includes:
- A cover letter describing why you are interested in and qualified for this internship
- A resume
- A portfolio of work demonstrating writing abilities and creative talent
Applicants may be required to submit their application materials to Dr. Kyle Mattson, Internship Coordinator, for review. Top candidates will be invited by the editors to interview for the position.
Internship Credit
Students may earn up to three hours of elective credit for the successful completion of this internship.
To be eligible for internship credit, students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.25 in their degree program. In addition, applicants must have completed at least nine hours of writing courses at the 3000-level.
Enrollment in WRTG 4385 requires approval by Dr. Kyle Mattson, Internship Coordinator.
