The University of Central Arkansas honored its veteran and military-connected students during the Second Annual Veterans and Military Appreciation Dinner, held April 23, 2025, in the Ronnie Williams Student Center Ballroom.
A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of graduating military-connected students. Each graduate was honored for their academic achievements and unwavering commitment to their education and service. As their names were called, they were celebrated for reaching an academic milestone and the unique leadership and perseverance they brought to the UCA community. The moment was a powerful reminder that behind every diploma is a story of dedication, sacrifice, and strength.
The evening, hosted by UCA’s Veterans and Military Resource Center (VMRC), brought together students, families, and community members to recognize the contributions of those who have served or supported loved ones in service.
The night featured a keynote address by Mr. Larry Brown, father of fallen U.S. Navy SEAL and former UCA student Adam Brown. In his moving remarks, Brown reflected on his son’s legacy, as shared in the book Fearless, and how UCA played a role in Adam’s journey. Adam Brown’s name is also permanently honored on the university’s granite war memorial. Adam is an example of how a person who had been brought down by life’s hard knocks can still rise to overcome their issues and go on to excel to great new heights!
Greg Pelts, director of the Veterans and Military Resource Center, spoke about the significance of the evening: “This dinner is one of the most powerful ways we can say ‘thank you’—not only to our students who have served but to the families who support them. It’s about creating space to reflect, connect, and celebrate their accomplishments.”
The event also honored graduating students affiliated with the military community. Guests enjoyed a semi-formal dinner and had the opportunity to connect with peers and supporters.
Jay Faulkner, VMRC’s Benefits Coordinator, emphasized the importance of community: “Our military-connected students bring resilience, leadership, and perspective to UCA. We’re proud to be part of their story.”
Each military-connected student was invited to bring a guest, with no cost to attend, reinforcing UCA’s commitment to supporting not only students but their extended networks of care and service.
