Hannah Hanshaw’s presentation proposal, The Person vs. The Prediction: Ethical Considerations in the Use of Predictive Analytics, has been selected as a Scholarly Paper for the 2025 NACADA Annual Conference, to be held October 26–29 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Chosen by the NACADA selection committee, Hanshaw’s work dives into the ethical complexities surrounding the use of predictive analytics in academic advising. Her session will engage attendees in a critical conversation about balancing data-informed strategies with individualized student support—an increasingly vital topic as higher education relies more heavily on technology and data to guide student success.
“This topic is important to me because it challenges us to think about how we use data in ways that still honor students as individuals,” Hanshaw said. “Predictive tools can be incredibly helpful, but they must be used thoughtfully and ethically.”
