The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) has seen a significant rise in enrollment among Veteran and military-connected students, with numbers increasing by more than 10% over the past year. This upward trend underscores the university’s steadfast commitment to supporting those who have served our country and their families.
Since 2022, Greg Pelts, Director of the Veterans and Military Resource Center, has played a pivotal role in these efforts. Under his leadership, UCA has broadened its outreach to military agencies across Arkansas, cultivating meaningful partnerships aimed at promoting student success.
“Our focus has been on making UCA a top choice for Veterans and military-connected students by building strong relationships and ensuring they have the resources they need,” said Pelts.
Kevin Thomas, Vice President for Enrollment Services & Student Success, commended Pelts for his passion and leadership, both on campus and in the broader military community.
“Greg’s leadership has been instrumental not only in growing UCA’s military-connected student population but also in strengthening relationships with military and Veterans agencies across Arkansas,” said Thomas. “His commitment ensures that UCA is not just a military-friendly institution in name, but in action.”
That commitment has not gone unnoticed. UCA has been recognized with the Military Friendly® designation, a distinction awarded to institutions that demonstrate exceptional support for military students through dedicated services, resources, and programming.
To further enhance these efforts, the university recently welcomed Jay Faulkner to the Veterans and Military Resource Center team. In his new role, Faulkner will focus on increasing student engagement and support, helping Veterans and military-connected students transition smoothly into academic life at UCA.
Another significant development is the reactivation of UCA’s Student Veterans Association. This organization provides a vital space for student Veterans to build community, share their experiences, and advocate for their needs, fostering a stronger, more connected campus environment.
With continued investments in staffing, outreach, and student programming, UCA is strengthening its position as a leading institution for military-affiliated students in Arkansas and beyond. These efforts not only honor the service of Veterans and their families but also ensure they have every opportunity to succeed in higher education and beyond.
