Vicky Summers serves as the University Registrar at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), bringing a wealth of experience and a passion for process improvement and student success. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Harding University and has had a diverse career in both the corporate and higher education sectors.
Before her tenure at UCA, Vicky Summers honed her skills in a variety of roles, including internal audit for a Fortune 500 company and as an accountant and financial analyst for Acxiom. Her corporate experience, coupled with a strong desire to contribute to a purpose-driven sector, led her to UCA. Over the past 11 years, she has made a significant impact, with 10 of those years dedicated to the Office of the Registrar.
Vicky’s initial efforts at UCA were focused on building a strong foundation for the Registrar’s office. She increased accuracy and established a team culture by documenting processes and establishing procedures. Her advocacy for team dynamics has fostered collaboration, unity, and continuity of operations. She restructured the services area and rebuilt the transcript evaluation process, expanding the articulation table from 5,000 to over 100,000 equivalencies, creating a transfer credit team, and automating the state minimum core evaluation process. These improvements have provided transparency and efficiency, greatly benefiting students and the university.
On the graduation side, Vicky launched the Banner Self Service graduation application, created additional graduation application status codes, and validated Degree Works as a degree award tool. She collaborated with IT to create Argos & Degree Works reports, developed batch auditing processes, and helped onboard a third-party vendor for diploma awards to decrease delivery time. Her thoughtful approach and continual evaluation for students who still need to complete their degrees have been instrumental in improving the graduation process.
Vicky’s primary goal is to ensure a seamless process for students, from transferring college credit to registration and ultimately to graduation. She is committed to creating an office structure and culture that continually improves and focuses on their depth of impact. Vicky believes in listening to issues and identifying barriers to degree completion, ensuring that university responsibilities are addressed to support student success.
Inspired by the passion-driven approach and layered complexities of Enrollment Services and Student Success, Vicky enjoys working in a collaborative environment that helps students achieve their goals. Outside work, she enjoys listening to indie, jazz, and big band music, maintaining a minimalist environment, spending time in nature, and practicing meditation and tai chi. These interests reflect her desire for organization, balance, and efficiency, which she brings into her professional role.
Vicky envisions the division expanding its impact through strategic improvements and seasoned collaboration. She is excited about the division’s growth and is eager to explore links within the work to identify areas for improvement. Her advice to students is to make the most of their time at UCA, learn and grow as individuals, and prepare for their future professional lives.
