Lindsey Witting Barnum is the Marketing Content Designer and Strategist at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design and a minor in Marketing from UCA.

Before joining UCA, Lindsey worked as a graphic designer at a local bank and has extensive experience as an illustrator, having worked on three children’s books and various mural projects both as an assistant and solo muralist. She has also freelanced as an illustrator, bringing creativity and visual storytelling to a range of projects.

Since joining UCA nearly a year ago, Lindsey has made significant contributions in her role. She is particularly proud of the branding overhaul for Admissions, aligning with the university’s brand while creating distinctive materials such as SOAR postcards, housing postcards, BEAR Life postcards, a new Welcome Center backdrop, holiday cards, and many others that feature her unique illustrative style.

Lindsey’s primary goal is to create work that clearly communicates with diverse audiences in an engaging and memorable way. She aims to ensure that the UCA brand is easily identifiable and stands out among the myriad materials potential students and their families receive. Additionally, she strives to keep current students informed and connected, ensuring they have the information they need to succeed.

Lindsey defines student success as achieving academic goals while feeling connected to the community and having a fulfilling college experience. She believes that clear communication about the tools and opportunities available at the university is essential, as many students are unaware of the resources that could significantly aid their educational journey.

Working in Enrollment Services and Student Success (ESSS) inspires Lindsey due to the unique challenge of catering to different student types. She enjoys the varied nature of her work, from creating materials for new students with the Admissions office to designing graduation reception invitations with the Office of the Registrar and Student Success. Each project provides a rewarding opportunity to support students at different stages of their academic careers.

Outside of work, Lindsey is an avid muralist and enjoys painting on smaller canvases. She likes to attend group fitness classes and hike with her husband and dogs. Cooking and baking are also among her favorite activities, all of which involve refining skills and investing in herself. These hobbies translate to her professional role, where continuous learning and creativity are crucial. She often draws inspiration from her painting styles for her graphic design work.

Looking to the future, Lindsey sees the division continuing to provide targeted programming that supports various student groups. With the additions of programs like Commitment and BEAR Life, and the expansion of Veterans Services, she believes there is potential to support even more student groups. As a designer, she is excited about the evolving messaging and look of ESSS, which will help connect with students more effectively.

Lindsey advises UCA students to utilize the resources available to them, including faculty and staff, who can offer valuable opportunities and connections. She credits her first children’s book illustration contract to a faculty member’s connection, highlighting the life-changing potential of building relationships within the university community.
