Job Opportunities

CWC Tutors

CWC Tutor applications are now open.  Please submit all of your application materials by November 10.

The Center for Writing and Communication (CWC) tutors go through a rigorous application and training process.  Please read the following instructions carefully before submitting an application:

  1. Potential tutors maintain a 3.25 or higher grade point average, display excellent writing and presentation skills, and possess a demeanor capable of working with a diverse student body. Students must also have completed WRTG 1320 and COMM 1300 (or equivalents) before the CWC Practicum begins in the spring semester. If you meet these qualifications, complete our online application form.
  2. Please read this sample student paper to answer the questions on the application. Here are the assignment guidelines for the student paper.
  3. Please watch the sample student presentation video located in the application form.  Here are the presentation assignment guidelines.
  4. Please ask one professor to complete our Faculty Reference Form.
  5. Please submit two writing samples of your own work to cwc@uca.edu.
  6. Once your application, faculty reference form, and writing samples are submitted, you will be contacted for an interview with the CWC directors. *Note: Applications will not be reviewed until all parts are complete.
  7. Candidates are chosen from those interviews to register for WRID 3315: CWC Practicum, the required course for students who want to be tutors (offered every spring semester on Mondays from 2:00 pm-4:30 pm). During their time in the course, students apprentice in the CWC with more experienced tutors, learn theoretical and practical approaches to teaching writing and communication one-to-one, and acquire knowledge of the kinds of writing and communication done across the disciplines.
  8. New tutors are chosen from students that make a “B” or above in WRID 3315. New tutors are eligible to begin work the fall semester after completing the practicum.
