1110 PUBLIC SERVICE AS A PROFESSION This course is a special degree requirement for public administration majors; may serve as an elective for non-majors with an interest in the topic. The course introduces students to public service as a profession. Topics include defining public service, what it means to be a public servant, the importance of public service, public service job opportunities and careers, and the many functions and duties of public servants. Students have the opportunity to engage and network with public service practitioners in government agencies and non-profit organizations.
2310 INTRODUCTION TO PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND POLICY A required course for majors and minors in public administration and political science but open to other students with an interest in the topic. This course introduces students to the public policy making process, the American public policy environment, the theory and practice of public administration, and the role of public administrators in the public policy process.
3310 PUBLIC MANAGEMENT A required course for majors and minors in Public Administration. An elective for Political Science students in the Public Administration subfield. The primary purpose of this course is to teach students about public organizations, the real world challenges facing public managers in administering government operations, the roles that public managers play in the development and implementation of public policies, and the specific functions that they undertake (planning, organizing, leading, decision-making). Prerequisites: PSCI 1330 and PADM 2310, or consent of instructor.
3320 PUBLIC POLICY ANALYSIS A study of the public policy process in the United States, with focus on various theories of public policy and specific policy areas. An elective for the Political Science major and minor in the Public Policy subfield and a core requirement for the Public Administration major and minor. 4V89 STUDIES IN PUBLIC AND NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT (Variable credit: 1-4 credit hours.) An elective for the public administration major and minor (but not limited to majors and minors). Independent studies course in public and non-profit management are designed to meet the individual needs of a student. Credit from one to four hours may be earned in one semester. The work is chosen by the student and his/her professor with the approval of the department chair. Students may arrange more than one independent study, subject to college and university rules. Prerequisite: PSCI 1330, PADM 2310, and consent of instructor and department chair.

4310, 4610 INTERNSHIP IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION This course is a special degree requirement for public administration majors. This course provides a structured, supervised learning experience in a government agency, non-profit organization, political campaign, or office of an elected official. Prerequisite: PSCI 1330, PADM 2310, and consent of internship coordinator.
4320 GOVERNMENT BUDGETING A study of the political and administrative aspects of government budgeting including a discussion of the budget process at each level of government and the key political and administrative actors making budget policy. An elective for the Political Science major and minor in the Public Administration subfield and a core requirement for the Public Administration major and minor (but not limited to majors and minors). Prerequisites: PSCI 1330 and PADM 3210, or consent of instructor.
4330 PUBLIC POLICY AND PROGRAM EVALUATION An elective course for majors and minors in Political Science or Public Administration (but not limited to majors and minors). The primary purpose of this course is designed to provide an overview to the field of policy and program evaluation. Program evaluation is a crucial aspect of the policy-making process with the examination of whether (and how) existing policies and/or programs work. Combines lecture and discussion methods. This course covers the Public Policy subfield. Prerequisites: PSCI 1330 and PADM 2310, or consent of instructor.
4340 NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT This course provides an overview of the complex and diverse nonprofit sector in the United States, including an introduction to issues, leadership challenges, and social/political factors affecting these organizations. Topics include missions, board governance, operations, funding, strategic planning, development, accountability, theories of management and leadership, and international considerations. Prerequisites: PSCI 1330 and PADM 2310, or consent of the instructor.
4350 INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS A study of the administrative, political, legal, and fiscal relationships among federal, state, and local government in the United States. An elective for the Political Science major and minor in the Public Administration subfield and the Public Administration major and minor (but not limited to majors and minors). 4360 EDUCATION POLICY This course is intended as a broad overview to education policy making. The course examines specific education policy issues by applying different analytic models to better understand particular policy outcomes. This course is an elective for the Public Administration major/minor and the Political Science major/minor. Prerequisite: PSCI 1330 and PADM 2310, or consent of instructor.
4370 SPECIAL TOPICS IN PUBLIC AND NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT An elective course for majors and minors in public administration, political science, and international studies. This course will explore topics in public administration including Administrative Law, Comparative Public Administration, Public Personnel Administration, and Nonprofit/NGO Administration. This course covers the Public Administration subfield. May be repeated for credit with a change of topic. Prerequisites: PSCI 1330 and PADM 2310, or consent of instructor.
4380 SPECIAL TOPICS IN PUBLIC POLICY An elective course for majors and minors in political science and public administration (but not limited to majors and minors). This course will provide an in-depth examination of substantive public policy areas such as education, health care, community development, social welfare, among others. Combines lecture and discussion methods. This course covers the Public Policy subfield. May be repeated for credit with a change of topic. Prerequisites: PSCI 1330 and PADM 2310, or consent of instructor.
