YOUTH THEATRE TO PRESENT PLAYS

The Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas, sponsored by the UCA Theatre Foundation, will present three short plays on Thursday and Friday, July 14 and 15 at 7:00 pm in the Bridges/Larson Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center.

The Junior Group, grades 3-6, will present A Thousand Cranes by Kathryn Schultz Miller. This tremendously moving play is based on a Japanese tradition that people who are sick will get well if they fold a thousand origami cranes.  The cast includes Catherine Bourquin, Shelby Bourquin, Olivia Bowles, Payton Brady, Ariel Duarte, Aiyla East, Claire Gillaspy, Gabrielle Johnson, Kaitlyn Key, Max Lambert, Vera Lambert, Lucas Massingill, and Will Vanderslice, all of Conway.

The Senior Group, grades 7-12, will present two short plays.  Streuth, by Michael Green, is a hilarious  crime story that Agatha Christie would never have dared to write. Stalag 13, also by Michael Green, is a comedic look at the relationship between men and war on a set that simply falls apart. Senior group participants include Rachel Glenn, Brittany Hillenburg, Summer Hillenburg, Juan Melendez, Mac Nabholz, Lilly Patton, Martin Trussell,  Julia Turner, all of Conway, Ian Turpin of Little Rock, and Sami Sharp and Tyler Sims of Greenbrier.

All three plays will be presented each evening with A Thousand Cranes beginning at 7:00 pm followed by Streuth and Stalag 13 at around 7:45 pm. Admission is free. Tickets are not required and seats are not reserved. Doors open each evening at 6:30 pm.

The Youth Theatre provides creative, professional theatrical experiences for students in grades 3-12 and is under the direction of Ruthann Curry Browne with assistance from UCA Theatre majors Josh Anderson and Lauren Morgenstern. Over the past several weeks, students have been tutored in acting, stagecraft, script analysis, voice, movement and makeup in addition to rehearsing for their performances.

Scholarships are made available for students who show a financial need by the UCA Theatre Foundation. Information about the Youth Theatre is available online at uca.edu/theatre or by calling Liz Parker, Youth Theatre Coordinator, at 501-450-5092.
