The Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas is registering participants for a unique one-day acting workshop titled ?Shakespeare in Pajamas.? The workshop is for students in grades 7-12 and will be held Saturday, Jan. 14 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center on the campus of UCA. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants get to spend the day in their pajamas and find out how much fun Shakespeare can be. Students will be cast in various scenes and monologues from some of Shakespeare?s most famous plays. They will spend the day rehearsing as well as learning some fascinating techniques and insights into the world of Shakespearean acting. A free public performance at 8 p.m. that evening will showcase the students? achievements.
The registration fee is $75 and must be paid by Jan. 12. Late registration will not be accepted. The class will be limited to 12 students. Students should bring a brown-bag lunch and a sleeping bag or blanket. Dinner will be provided prior to the performance.
The Youth Theatre is a 15-year old program sponsored by UCA Theatre and the UCA Theatre Foundation. This unique program offers participants a professional educational experience in theatre which allows each student to explore his or her own creative talents. Students are instructed in the art of acting and learn the techniques and methods used by professional actors everywhere. Classes are taught by Ruthann Curry Browne, adjunct professor of theatre at UCA. Ms. Browne holds a master of arts in performance from the Lamont School of Music and has taken courses toward a Ph.D. in theatre for youth. She has taught middle school drama, conducted acting workshops and directed numerous plays. She has been the director of the Youth Theatre for the last year and a half.
