The Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas is accepting students for its upcoming acting class, Shakespeare is Fun! The class is open to any central Arkansas student in grade 7-12. Previous acting experience is not required and beginning students are encouraged to enroll.
The class begins March 5 and meets on consecutive Saturdays from Noon to 2 p.m. through March 26 in the Studio Theatre of the Snow Fine Arts Center. The registration fee for the four-week course is $80.
The Youth Theatre of Central Arkansas is sponsored by UCA Theatre in conjunction with the UCA Theatre Foundation and provides unique creative theatrical experiences for children in grades 3-12.
Formed in 1990 as a summer performance camp, the Youth Theatre recently expanded and now offers classes and workshops for students who are ready to broaden their acting skills. Classes are offered for beginning and advanced students at all age levels. All classes are being taught by Ruthann Curry Browne, a UCA theatre adjunct professor and professional actress.
Browne holds a master of arts degree in performance from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, and has taken graduate courses toward a Ph.D. in theatre for youth from Arizona State University. She has over 25 years experience both on-stage and behind-the-scenes while directing, acting, producing, and teaching drama. She has taught community drama classes, summer children drama camp, directed numerous plays, and performed professionally in film, television, and on stage.
Shakespeare is Fun! introduces students to the language, meaning, and action in Shakespearean plays. Participants will learn to score scripts, and work on monologues, soliloquoys and scenes. Students will also be special guests of UCA Theatre at their production of Hamlet scheduled for mid-April.
