Candace Welcher’s dedication to providing quality health care to University of Central Arkansas students has been recognized by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Welcher, the director of student health services, has been named the recipient of the 2010 Arkansas Nurse Practitioner State Award for Excellence. She will receive the award during a conference in June 2010 at the AANP National Conference in Phoenix.
The Nurse Practitioner State Award for Excellence is given annually to a dedicated nurse practitioner in each state who demonstrates excellence in their area of practice.
This is the second time the organization has recognized Welcher. She also received the award in 2003.
“I am very honored and pleased to receive this award. No one achieves anything in a vacuum,” says Welcher. “I have been blessed to work with a wonderful staff here at UCA Student Health Clinic. The award is really for what we have accomplished as a team here.”
Welcher has served as director of student health services since July 1999 and has 35 years of nursing experience. She has written several patient information booklets and instructional material for nursing staff and patients. Welcher is also an instructor in UCA’s nurse practitioner program.
