CONWAY – Voices of Central Arkansas, an award-winning choral ensemble program, will perform A Holiday Tapestry Christmas concert at the University of Central Arkansas’s Snow Fine Arts Center on Monday, Dec. 8.

The concert, free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is intended for all ages.

VOCA began in 1996 and consists of children in grades 3 to 12. In recent years, the children’s choir has performed with Conway Symphony Orchestra, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and The American Boychoir.

“Our Christmas concert includes traditional Christmas carols as well as some multicultural music,” said Dr. Sheri Cook-Cunningham, assistant professor of music and director of VOCA. “The choirs will sing two South African songs, ‘South African Gloria’ and ‘Living in a Holy City.’”

The Youth Choir, which consists of children in grades 9 to 12, will combine with the University Chorus for their portion of the program. During the concert there will be songs when all four choirs will sing together.

“One of the final songs is ‘O, Holy Night’ and the Youth Choir has planned a special accompaniment that I think the audience will find very moving,” Cook-Cunningham said.

VOCA directors hold several auditions throughout the year, and upon a successful audition, children are placed in one of three choirs. Children who are interested in joining VOCA can call Teresa Bumgarner at (501) 450-3672 or email her at tbumgarner@uca.edu to schedule an audition. Upcoming auditions will be held on Jan. 7-8 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Snow Fine Arts Center, room 312A.
